Data Discovery & Privacy Engineer Location: Cleveland, OH or Remote Overview An experienced engineer is needed to support enterprise-wide data discovery, classification, and privacy initiatives using the BigID platform. This role focuses on building scalable integrations, enhancing data governance capabilities, and strengthening compliance efforts across cloud and on‑prem environments. Candidates should bring strong technical skills, hands-on BigID experience, and a solid understanding of modern cloud ecosystems such as AWS and GCP. Primary Responsibilities
Build and maintain integrations between BigID and various enterprise data sources, including databases, cloud storage services, data warehouses, and API-driven systems.
Configure and tailor BigID policies, classifiers, and connectors to align with internal security standards and external regulatory requirements (GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, etc.).
Develop efficient data discovery and classification workflows using BigID tools, APIs, and scripting to support large-scale environments.
Enhance metadata quality by creating custom enrichment rules that improve data tagging, context, and governance visibility.
Partner with privacy, security, and data governance teams to ensure BigID capabilities support organizational compliance objectives.
Diagnose and resolve issues related to platform performance, data ingestion, connector stability, and classification accuracy.
Produce clear technical documentation covering configurations, integration patterns, and custom development work.
Participate in peer reviews and provide guidance to junior engineers on best practices for BigID usage, automation, and API development.
Coordinate with BigID support and vendor teams to address platform-level concerns or request new features.
Monitor updates to the BigID platform and evolving privacy regulations, applying necessary adjustments to maintain compliance and operational efficiency.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline—or equivalent experience.
Demonstrated hands-on experience configuring, deploying, and supporting the BigID platform.
Strong working knowledge of cloud technologies, particularly AWS and GCP.
Understanding of data governance, data classification concepts, and privacy regulations such as GDPR and CCPA.
Experience working with APIs, data connectors, and cloud storage integrations.
Familiarity with core cloud concepts including IAM, networking, and storage.
Ability to operate effectively in an agile, fast-paced environment with limited oversight.
Preferred Qualifications
BigID certification.
Scripting experience (Python, Shell, or similar).
Background in data privacy, security engineering, or compliance-driven projects.
